Donor Days

Donor Days take place twice a year, one in the north of the country in the spring, and one in the south of the country in the autumn. This is a new initiative funded from a section 64 grant from the Department of Health from 1 April 2005.

The aim of this initiative is to encourage local businesses and influential organisations to run organ donor awareness campaigns in their workplace or area of activity. We encourage this through presentations by donor families, recipients and healthcare professionals (preferably from the local area). We also provide support, advice and information materials to facilitate workplace campaigns after the event.

Donor Day North

The first Donor Day North was held as a lunchtime event on 17 March 2006 at the Centre for Life, Newcastle. Attendees included the local Mayor and Lady Mayoress, as well as Sir Miles Irving, Chairman of the Newcastle Hospital NHS Trust, and local businesses.

The second Donor Day North was at The Museum of Science & Industry in Manchester on 27th March 2007. This event was on the evening before the start of the BTS Conference also in Manchester. Presentations were given by David Nix – Donor Family – and Graham Brushett – Transplant Recipient. The event was attended by the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Manchester, who also went on board the Donor Bus earlier in the day!

We provided participants with our new campaign pack at this event. For your own copy please contact Sue Johnstone mailto:sue[@]transplantsinmind.org.uk

Donor Day South

The first Donor Day South was held on 6 September aboard the SS Great Britain in Bristol. This event took the form of a business breakfast, and included presentations from a donor family, a recipient and local heath care professionals.

TIM plan to hold the next Donor Day South at Brighton Racecourse during the early part of September 2007. The Donor Bus will hopefully be at this event, having been on a tour of the South during the preceeding week.
