I Can Live On (poem)

I can by donating some of my organs for a good many years in others live on
Even though from this earth to heaven my body and soul may have gone

My Corneas can help more than one person who is blind to see just like you
And through them many things around them have a special and magical view

My Heart can beat in a man or woman and help them to become fit and strong
And give them a quality of life for which they yearn and long

My Lungs can help one or two people to breathe without oxygen again
And let them be more active and free from chest pain

My Liver can help by filtering one or two people’s blood
And make them look healthy and feel very good

My Kidneys will flush all their bodies’ impurities and some toxins away
And keep them from needing dialysis for many hours during the night or day

My Pancreas would help them to produce insulin at the correct amount
So that many times a day their blood sugar levels they did not need to take account

I can live on in many people and improve their quality of life in so many different ways
And help them to feel better and have lots of good times and memories instead of bad and painful days

My donated organs after my passing can help to make each recipients lives’ so much better and worthwhile for many a year
And bring joy to their eyes instead of a tear

And bring them healthily and happily back to those whom they love
Because I thought of others before I came to heaven above

I know that to some on earth I will be missed and loved and held dear
But because of my kind act I brought to some sick people a bit of happiness and good cheer
