Jacky Dunn -I Would Could You (Poem)

I Would Could You
Could you donate an egg, to help a woman become a mother?
Breathe new life by giving your lungs to someone else’s brother
Give your liver or your pancreas to a man you’ll never meet
Leave your kidneys to a woman you may have passed upon the street
Lead a parent from the darkness and give the gift of sight
Donate the heart of your only child who passed away at night
The gift of life within us all, black, white old and young
Organ donation is the greatest gift you could ever give someone
Tell your friends, your loved ones what you would like to do
Yes, Please donate my organs I have, I would, Could you?
Written by Jacqalyn Dunn 2007. Jacky is a volunteer for the Cleveland Fire Support Network, and is in favour of the “opt-out” system of organ donation. Jacky believes that poems on posters in hospitals may help “jog memories” about conversations potential donor families may have had on donation, so encouraging donation, and making the decision easier.
